MANDELA DAY

The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere. “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”
Individuals and organisations are free to participate in Mandela Day as they wish. We do however urge everyone to adhere to the ethical framework of “service to one’s fellow human”. (taken from the following website: http://www.mandeladay.com/)

A day named after this remarkable man is a day worthy of remarkable things. Do you have anything remarkable planned??!

STATE STREET
is a company who knows and accepts its corporate responsibility. This is the second year that we are working with State Street. Last year they donated toys for a back-to-school party that the FIG helped with. Nilfa Suleman from State Street contacted us asking who in our Network was in need. (Please visit their website: www.statestreet.com).

We decided we would visit the Woodstock Day hospital. Among others, 450 elderly people cared for in NGO homes are dependent on the Woodstock day hospital. The elderly community in the Western Cape are so often overlooked by donors. Most of them have been neglected by their children and this is an issue that is close to the FIG network's heart.

We decided that, together with State Street we wanted to spend Mandela Day spreading some cheer with the people who laid the foundation of the society we live in.

* If you haven't made Mandela Day plans yet, please feel free to assist State Street and the FIG network make and deliver sandwiches, coffee and tea to the people who are waiting in line at the Woodstock Day Hospital.

FIG Phase Two

The FIG Network will be in operation for one whole successful year on the 23 July. To commemorate our First Birthday we plan to launch FIG Phase Two.

We call on professionals who are willing to give their time and expertise to a great cause. No matter what your profession, the FIG network will assign you to an individual or organisation that can benefit from your help. In this way the FIG network will join groups on either side of the spectrum: the givers and the needy.

An example of  how this can work:
If you are a dentist you can accompany us to an event where we will be distributing food or donations and teach the community about dental hygiene.

If you have green thumbs we will put you in touch with an orphanage who need help tending their vegetable garden.

If you're a make up artist then join us at an old age home where we do magic makeovers for the elderly.

In return for your service, the FIG network will showcase your business via all our social media platforms. This will act as a form of advertising! As our network grows, more people will come to know about your business and appreciate that you have fulfilled your social responsibility. Win-win!

Please feel free to comment :)
