The event was very well run. The gatekeeper, Jenny, prepared the community ahead of time by issuing them with food tickets which entitled them to a meal. This system ensures order and seamless operations.

The volunteers took time to interact with the community and there attendance was well co-ordinated.

FIG presence was very well-received by the community. FIG members were welcomed into homes and given a glimpse into the conditions that the people of 7de Laan live in. Families are forced to share homes no bigger than one bedroom.

The people of 7de Laan showed immense gratitude which was a great reward for us at the FIG network.

The left over food was taken to a safe haven for abandoned children in Hanover Park.

State Street helper serving patients at the Woodstock Day Hospital

If you've ever been to the Woodstock Day Hospital you will know that it is a hard place to navigate. It is so easy to get lost! Lucky for us we had the wonderful staff on duty welcome us and help us set up.

Operations (non-medical) kicked off at 11am when the State Street's Team met us at the Day Hospital. They were armed with sandwiches and coffee and tea ingredients- a real treat for anyone who has been waiting in a long line all day to see the doctor.

Soon patients were filling the room and the FIGS and State Street helpers were taking coffee and tea orders. Most people stopped for a friendly chat once they had all taken their meal. Everyone expressed gratitude at the chance to have a nice warm drink and a snack. Some even came back for seconds :)

When hosting a charity event it is always good to over-cater. Lucky for us the Al-Noor orphanage centre was literally a stone throw away. Once we packed up at the Day Hospital we walked over to Al-Noor to deliver sandwiches would be kept until the kids returned from school (it happened to be their first day back).

The State Street Team at Al-Noor Orphanage Centre

This was a really awesome event because what started out as an event for the patients at the hospital turned out to be one that fed the kids of the orphanage centre! Win!

The FIG network extends a massive thank you and hug to State Street who were a pleasure to work with. The company has a keen interest in community upliftment and it filters down to the employees.
